(May 10, 1999) - ParaSoft, leading provider of software productivity solutions, announced today their donation of $150,000 worth of licenses for their award-winning Developer's Kit, which includes Insure++, TCA, Inuse and CodeWizard, to the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University at Buffalo (UB).

After doing his own research on automatic error detection tools for C/C++, UB's Computer Science and Engineering Director of Research/Project Manager Ajay Shekhawat chose Insure++ over the competition because he says, "Insure++ catches more bugs than Purify and it supports more platforms which is what we wanted. Insure++ will help us improve the code we write and make our code more robust."

Once Shekhawat chose to purchase Insure++, ParaSoft decided to donate enough licenses of their Developer's kit for his entire department. The donation is part of ParaSoft's continued commitment to improving quality and increasing productivity at every level of software development. "ParaSoft is always eager to help students learn to produce the highest quality software possible," says ParaSoft CEO Dr. Adam Kolawa. "These students will produce the software of the future and it is very important that they learn to produce clean code."

The main focus of the Computer Science and Engineering department is research rather than programming, and Shekhawat admits that his students do not always write the cleanest code. He foresees that incorporating ParaSoft's tools into their development process, which takes place on multiple platforms, will greatly assist his students in catching the bugs which are often difficult to find in the complicated programs that they write.

With CodeWizard, Shekhawat is confident that the students will actually learn to write better code. "It is like each student having his/her own 'teacher' inspecting their code, pointing out tricky errors, etc. For us, as a research group, it means that the code we deliver to our sponsors will be `industrial- strength,' making them very happy!"
