ParaSoft CEO To Speak On A New Strategy For Preventing
Software Bugs At Software Development East

Dr. Adam Kolawa Teaches How Error Prevention Practices Will Improve Software Quality

MONROVIA, CA (November 1, 1999) - ParaSoft, leading provider of software error prevention and error detection solutions, announced today that Dr. Adam Kolawa, ParaSoft CEO/Chairman, will address the benefits and effectiveness of establishing and enforcing software coding standards at the twelfth annual Software Development East Conference in Washington, D.C., from November 8 through 12.

Producing clean software is the ultimate goal that developers and managers strive to achieve. However, as deadlines and pressure to complete a project approaches, software quality may suffer. Consequently, developers and managers need to implement guidelines that assist them with the development process.

Dr. Kolawa will introduce a new and effective strategy illustrating how coding standards lead to greater consistency, which in turn leads to code that is easier to understand. Implementing standards saves the development team much-needed time by reducing the number of errors in the final product by at least 25 percent. Moreover, this can significantly improve software quality as well as accelerate time to market. Through the use of such standards, code becomes easier to maintain and develop, reducing the overall cost of application development.

"Inexperienced developers and programmers will often fight the instrumentation of standards, claiming that they can write code faster if they do it their own way," says Dr. Adam Kolawa. "It is actually the opposite. The ones who are most productive, in the long run, are those who follow the standards because their code is easier to understand and maintain as a result."

In order to produce clean code, development teams must determine when, where and how errors occur. The next step is to find a feasible solution to eliminate the cause of the errors.

"Software quality must be a priority from the start," says Dr. Kolawa. "The best way to build an efficient product is to prevent errors in the initial stages of development. It is vital to follow a careful requirement analysis, have an excellent design, and use proper coding practices."

ParaSoft will also be exhibiting at the show. Attendees can stop by booth #828 to learn about their entire line of error detection and error prevention tools for Java and C/C++, including CodeWizard, ParaSoft's automatic coding standard enforcement tool for C++. CodeWizard automatically analyzes C++ source code and enforces more than 70 coding standards that come from industry experts such as Scott Meyers and Stanley Lippman. Additionally, CodeWizard lets users add and customize rules that allow for even more thorough error detection.

The Software Development East Conference will be held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. November 8-12. Dr. Kolawa will be speaking on Monday, November 8 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. For more information on the conference please go to http://www.sdexpo.com.
